 Basic Gameplay

 In Chuzzle Deluxe, you have a grid that is full of different colors of Chuzzles. Your objective in each level is to form groups of three or more Chuzzles. As you match the Chuzzles, a flask fills. Once completely filled, you advance to the next level. It sounds simple enough, but the unique gameplay and special Chuzzles can make it very challenging.

 Rather than switching or swapping Chuzzles (like you do in other match-three games), you move entire rows or columns of Chuzzles at a time. These rows and columns even wrap around the grid, so that dragging a column upward will make a Chuzzle on the top of the grid appear at the bottom. You'll also have to deal with things like exploding Chuzzles, fat Chuzzles that can't wrap around the grid, and locked Chuzzles that prevent the row and column they are in from being moved.

 While Chuzzle Deluxe does contain levels, there isn't much difference from level to level. All levels are just a random selection and placement of Chuzzles on the game grid (except for Mind Bender Mode). A slightly higher difficulty are the only real changes from level to level.

 4 Modes From Relaxing to Racing the Clock

 There are four different modes of play available in the game. The Classic Mode is the normal gameplay for Chuzzle (described above). The Speed Mode is similar to Classic Mode, except that you must race against the clock and move as quickly as possible. If you don't make matches quickly enough, a timer will run out and a Chuzzle will become locked. Move too slowly and you might find that so many Chuzzles have become locked that you have no moves left.

 The Zen Mode is the easiest and most relaxing gameplay experience. There are no timers or locked Chuzzles to deal with, so you can go at your own pace without worrying about running out of moves. The final mode you can choose is the Mind Bender Mode. Each level in this mode has a special pattern that you must match by moving the Chuzzles around the grid.

 Adjustable Difficulty

 Chuzzle Deluxe does offer two different difficulty settings (Casual and Expert) to choose from, but only for the Classic and Speed Modes. However, even on the Casual setting, the game can still be quite difficult. Fortunately, the Zen Mode provides an option to players who have trouble on the other modes. Zen Mode is a more relaxing and easier experience that novice players can rely on, while others can challenge themselves in any number of ways in the other modes. Additionally, you can always get a hint if you want (in exchange for some points).

 The controls are few in number and simple in use, much like other match-three puzzle games. You use your mouse cursor to click and drag the Chuzzles in rows, either vertically or horizontally. That's all you need to play the game.

 Easy to Learn and Play

 Like many other similar matching puzzle games, the graphics in Chuzzle Deluxe are relatively simple. However, the Chuzzles add some personality and a cute element to the game's clean look. Additionally, the simple nature of the game means that not having cutting-edge or over-the-top visuals isn't a big issue. In addition to the graphics, Chuzzle Deluxe puts together a nice collection of sound effects and a good soundtrack to go along with the game.

 Despite the various modes you can choose from, there isn't a lot of variety in the play. You'll always be moving the rows or columns of Chuzzles regardless of the other slight differences. While this can be a bit repetitive or boring, the game is also very addictive at the same time. The game also tracks high scores and award trophies for play. This encourages you to replay the game and try to earn these trophies or beat previous high scores.

A powerful and funny tweak is the Hoverboard which will boost your speed, as well as increase the risk of failing the daily mission you're set. The list of power-ups is quite long, and what we liked beyond the colorful interface was that the developers don't push for in-app purchases, as you can use the collected coins to upgrade your Hoverboard.

The Chicken Invaders series has always been a good source of protein... and entertainment. Blasting feathered fiends in space needs a silly storyline to go along with it, and Chicken Invaders has always delivered in this aspect. The fourth release, subtitled Ultimate Omelette, continues the wacky tradition, providing the most challenging and bizarre shooting action in the series so far.The joke perhaps feels a little strung out by now, and the gameplay barely differs from previous titles, but that doesn't stop Ultimate Omelette from being plenty of addictive fast-paced fun.

Chicken Invaders 4 continues on from where the story left off in number three, although it isn't necessary to play the rest of the series to fully appreciate this latest release. Our hero is about to order a large portion of chicken from his local Space Burger drive-thru, when a mysterious ship appears from a nearby portal and tells of an incoming chicken invasion.

The chickens have built a huge Egg Cannon which can be used to fire eggs at planets, covering them in yolk and egg white which then fries in the heat of the sun. Players must chase down the terrible machine through multiple waves of dangerous poultry, dodging egg bombs and swooping birds of doom.

Ultimate Omelette is genuinely humorous, make no mistake. Dialogue is told through speech bubbles and Star Wars-inspired cutscenes, and while the story is rather throwaway, there are plenty of great lines to quote back to friends. The enemy characters are often a great laugh too, ranging from chicks riding in UFOs to hens firing huge laser beams.

Gameplay is your standard shoot 'em up affair, with enemies swooping around the screen, and players tasked with dodging incoming fire and blasting them all down to proceed. Chickens will drop a variety of power-ups for your laser, money for high scores and chicken pieces for special bombs. Darting around collecting the fallout is a game in itself.

There are just over half a dozen different weapons to try out, some more useful than others. Experimenting with the different firepower is really enjoyable, although you'll most likely end up sticking to one particular weapon that you find the most pleasing.

Note that you cannot simply hold the fire button down and fill the screen with bullets, as your gun will overheat if you use it too often - balancing your weapon use gives the game a real tactical feel.

Two different control methods are available - either using your mouse or your keyboard - and we found that, while the keyboard is the classic weapon of choice, Ultimate Omelette is far easier with mouse control, especially when you take all the falling debris into consideration. With so much going hard, it can be difficult to get out of the way in time using the keyboard, plus it doesn't always feel so responsive.

Chicken Invaders 4 is fantastic for a first-timer to the series, but for veterans of the games, it will feel a little too samey. The action has improved somewhat over the course of the series, but it's still really the same ideas and premise that ran through the other games. Hence, those who are not new to the games may feel that paying full price for this latest release is a little too much.

Having said that, there's plenty to see and do in Chicken Invaders 4, from collecting medals to unlock a host of secret features. For an entertaining and hilarious romp through space, Ultimate Omelette will definitely provide the goods on a silver platter.

Chicken Invaders, the first video game in the series is a very simple game: The levels consist of ten waves of attacking space chickens. The waves never differ, keeping in the same order wave after wave, but they do increase in difficulty. In all the waves, the enemy (chickens) drops eggs from the top, which have to be dodged. Player needs to collect gifts (parcels) to receive points and to upgrade the primary weapon. Primary weapon can be upgraded up to 8 levels. One or two players can play the game. The player may also collect and use Missiles. A missile is hard to acquire but can wipe out an entire wave of chickens. The game does not have a storyline beyond one sentence description given by the producer.

Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave is the second game in the series. It can be played by one or two players. The player takes command of the same lone spacecraft of the previous and must eliminate the chicken infestation of the solar system. The game features eleven levels, each of which consists of 10 waves of attacking hostiles. In all the waves, chickens attack by dropping eggs which have to be dodged.

Player may collect different items that helps him in the game. Primary weapons may be changed by collecting parcels. Power-ups may also be collected to upgrade the primary weapon. Weapons may be upgraded up to eleven levels. The eleventh level however, is only acquired by collecting ten power-ups. Player may collect and accumulate drumsticks to get missiles, powerful weapons that can wipe out an entire wave.

Chicken Invaders 3: Revenge of the Yolk comprises the main game together with Easter and Christmas editions. It is similar to the second version (with up to 4 player cooperative play). It has 120 waves, in 10 levels across 12 systems in the galaxy. There are 30 bonuses. Weapons have 11 power levels, and a secret 12th level, which can only be reached by acquiring an additional 10 powerups after the 10th level powerup (the 20th). There are also eight which are unlocked after repeatedly completing the game.

The plot has the hero heading to Space Burger, famished as usual, when a twinkling behind the sun was spotted. When the hero arrives at that twinkling, he comes upon a giant egg that may or may not my built out of the Mother Hen ship. This egg, known as the Yolk Star, pushed the player into a black hole after the player gets him angry. The player arrives at the other end of the galaxy and must battle his way back and destroy the Yolk Star before it destroys earth.

The fourth game (UO) is similar to Revenge of the Yolk. It has 120 waves across 12 levels. It includes weapons which can be upgraded through 11 power levels, with a supercharged 12th level. The weapons from Revenge of the Yolk are available as 'unlockables'. Ultimate Omelette unlockables can be purchased individually by collecting keys, which are dropped from destroyed enemies during the course of the game. A new feature in this game is the capability of the player's spaceship to face in any direction depending on the level (it was always facing up in previous games), and the camera can also zoom in or out depending on the wave (boss fights typically have the camera zoomed out to contain all the action).

The plot begins with the player/hero at Space Burger. A portal suddenly opens and a ship comes out. The ship says its name is Hen Solo and urges the hero to follow him to his galaxy to see the Chickens' latest creation, the Egg Cannon. The player heads through his galaxy and other strange places to confront the Egg Cannon.
